Saint

I was asleep when I heard a noise. Lying still, I let my eyes search the premises of the room. A shadow passed by the window, and I covered Kimora’s mouth with my hand. Alarmed, she tried to jump up. I leaned close to her ear and whispered, “Angel, it's me. I think there’s somebody trying to get into your house. Get dressed so that I can get you out of here. Don’t make a sound.”

Kimora nodded, and I let her go. Quietly, she climbed out of bed and began moving around slowly. I reached the door in three strides, getting dressed while looking for shadows, but saw none.

I peeked into the guest room, seeing nobody. I got to my drawer, pulled out all three of the guns, loaded them, pocketed the money and keys, put on my vest, and grabbed the brand-new phone. Ready, I closed Kimora in her room and searched the house.

There was a guy in the kitchen and another in the living room. Squatting, I shot the guy walking into the kitchen in the head before shooting the one in the living room in the leg and then neck, before I stood.

A third ran into the house, and I shot him twice in the chest. A shot rang out, almost hitting me in the shoulder. Too high, it hit the wall. My reaction was to shoot with two guns in his direction. Four shots later, he fell forward into Kimora’s glass table, shattering it completely.

“Kimora!” I shouted.

She opened the bedroom door, and I motioned her to come to me with my hand. When she neared the living room, someone entered the house aiming for her head, but I shot first, sending him to the ground.

Kimora gasped, shaking, when she jumped into my arms. It didn’t register to me the corpses left behind because I was too busy trying to ensure that I protected her and that we got out alive. It was survival of the fittest, and they were losing.

I checked out the back door to see men filing around from the side. The front was clear, so we headed out of it, quietly closing the door behind us. I took the keys out of my back pocket and clicked the unlock button, and a car to my right flashed its lights.

“Get in!” I harshly whispered and nodded toward the lit-up car.

Watching the door to her house, I followed her until I got to the driver’s side and climbed in. I started the car and made a U-turn out of the parking spot, not chancing it to drive back past the house. I kept the lights off as we sped away until I hit the corner, driving
